Who can participate?
It’s a broad invitation on purpose! Therapy doesn’t have to focus on your reckoning with not having children but your identity is in the room the whole time and that matters too.
Anyone without children
If you are a person without kids who is, or was, in therapy for any issuee this survey is for you!
Therapists without children
Providers have important insight about what it’s like to be a non-parent in this field.
People who are unsure
Open to all people without children, even those who are uncertain, fence-sitting, or hoping for them 'one day.' I think those experiences should count too.
This project gives the community a voice
While the general consensus is that empathic therapy is hard for nonparents to find, no research focuses on why.
The logical first step is to ask the community for their input!
How will the data from the survey be used?
Information will be compiled to create a resource for mental health providers.
Survey answers will help push the profession towards a more affirming and welcoming space for all of us who happen to not be parents.
Who’s organizing this?
Hi, I’m Katie, a licensed therapist and childless person. I’m committed to helping my own mental health field understand the lived experiences of clients without children. I’ve embarked on this project because I’ve gotten tired of waiting around for academia to address what many childless/childfree people will tell you- that therapy is not always a safe place. The first step is to amplify our own voices!
